This 3-hour, 15-minute excursion includes round-trip transportation from downtown Juneau, approximately 25-30 minutes of helicopter flightseeing, and 70-80 minutes at the glacier dog sled camp, including an approximately 45-minute guided sled ride.

Your Helicopter Adventure

Your journey begins with transportation from the Goldbelt Tram area in downtown Juneau to Coastal Helicopters’ helicopter base.

Board your helicopter for a scenic flight toward Herbert Glacier. As you travel above Juneau’s wilderness, watch the landscape unfold beneath you before descending toward a summer dog sled camp surrounded by the snow-covered glacier.

After approximately 12-15 minutes in the air, you’ll arrive at the camp, where a different kind of Alaska adventure begins.

Experience Dog Sledding on Herbert Glacier

At the glacier dog sled camp, operated by Alaska Icefield Expeditions, you’ll discover what life is like at a summer dog mushing camp on the ice.

Your visit includes a tour of the camp and a safety briefing before joining an experienced dog mushing guide for an approximately 45-minute sled ride.

Feel the movement of the sled across the snow as a team of Alaskan Huskies pulls you through the glacier landscape. Surrounded by mountains and ice, you’ll experience a tradition closely connected to Alaska’s history and culture.

With approximately 70–80 minutes at camp, this experience offers more than a helicopter flight over the glacier. It’s an opportunity to visit a working dog sled camp and experience the journey from the sled itself.

Scenic Return Flight to Juneau

After your time at the dog sled camp, reboard your helicopter for the scenic flight back to Coastal’s base. Enjoy another perspective of Juneau’s mountains and glacial terrain before returning to downtown by ground transportation.

The complete excursion takes approximately 3 hours, including transportation.

This tour is suited to cruise ship passengers and independent travelers visiting Juneau. Cruise guests should confirm their selected tour time is compatible with their ship’s schedule, allowing at least 45 minutes after arrival and before departure.

Important Details About Your Tour

• When selecting a Juneau helicopter glacier tour time; please allow yourself a 45-minute buffer from when your ship arrives and leaves. It is your responsibility to book times that work with your cruise ship.
• Cameras and cell phones are welcomed while on tour, but all drones, selfie sticks, phone stabilizers, and any camera extensions are prohibited.
• The selected tour time is the pick-up time from the Goldbelt Tram Building (490 S. Franklin Street). This landmark will have red gondolas going up and down the mountain (it is important to note that you are NOT getting on the tram, you are just meeting at the building).
• Coastal Helicopters will try our best to accommodate parties/families in the same helicopter. However, we cannot guarantee seating as it is all based on helicopter weight and balance, as well as the other parties within the flight. This will be determined at the time of check-in once everyone on the flight has weighed in. Should your family/party be split into multiple helicopters, the landing will happen together. Please also note that lap children are NOT allowed, and each passenger must purchase a full-fare ticket.
• Please report proper weights fully clothed for all attending guests. Inputting improper weights or selecting the wrong passenger type can lead to rescheduling on the day of your tour or cancellation without refund.
• Please be aware that every guest is individually weighed at our facilities.
• If you are unable to enter and exit our aircraft on your own, you may be subject to rescheduling on the day of your tour or cancellation without refund. Our Helicopters hold up to 6 Standard Passengers. Groups of 2 or more passengers may be subject to being split amongst different aircraft to ensure the safety of all Coastal Helicopters staff and passengers while on tour.
